One-time setup

Connect this PC

Install a local agent once (or run ./run_agent.sh). It owns Docker pulls/cache and talks to this UI at 127.0.0.1:8766.

  1. 1

    Give Docker permission

The agent must be able to run docker ps as your user — not only as root.

    1. Install Docker Engine and start it.
    2. Add yourself to the docker group:
    sudo usermod -aG docker "$USER"
    1. Log out and back in (or reboot). Group membership only applies after a new session.
    2. Verify — this must succeed without sudo:
    docker ps

If you see “permission denied” on the socket, the group change hasn’t taken effect yet.

    1. Install and open Docker Desktop.
    2. Wait until the whale icon shows Docker is running.
    3. In a terminal, verify:
    docker ps

If it fails, open Docker Desktop → Settings → grant access when prompted, then retry.

    1. Install and open Docker Desktop.
    2. If you use WSL2, enable your distro under Settings → Resources → WSL integration.
    3. In PowerShell or WSL, verify:
    docker ps

“Cannot connect to the Docker daemon” usually means Desktop isn’t running.

  2. 2

    Install the agent

Copy the command for your OS, paste it in a terminal once, press Enter.
